WRDQ, ch. 27, is an independent affiliated TV station in Orlando, Florida. It's analog transmitter is located in northeastern Osceola County. The station's DT transmitter is located in Christmas. Owned by COX Enterprises, WRDQ is sister to ABC affiliate WFTV. The 2 stations share studios on East South Street in downtown Orlando. Syndicated programming on WRDQ includes: South Park, Scrubs, Merv Griffin's Crosswords, Oprah, According to Jim & George Lopez. The station can be considered an alternate ABC affiliate. As such, it may take on the responsibility of airing ABC programs whenever WFTV may not be able to do so as in a news-related emergency. WRDQ offers the RTN on it's 2nd DT subchannel & on Bright House digital cable ch. 1028.

HistoryEdit

The station's original construction permit was issued as early as 1990. Initial plans called for WRDQ's license to be held by a locally-based owner with WFTV operating the station under a LMA. However, it was not ready to broadcast by the time the FCC began allowing duopolies of commercially-licensed TV stations. This allowed COX to purchase WRDQ outright before it signed on for the 1st time in 2000. On May 28 2007, WRDQ replaced it's re-airing of ABC News America This Morning @ 6 AM with the 1st hour of the nationally syndicated morning show, The Daily Buzz. The 2nd hour of the show airs tape-delayed @ 10 AM with the 3rd hour of the show not airing. On April 14 2008, the station launched a new 2nd DT subchannel to carry the RTN.

News operationEdit

WRDQ airs a nightly, half-hour 10 PM newscast that is produced by WFTV. Since January of 2007, that station has also been producing a weekday morning newscast from 7-8:30 AM. Prior to the morning news premiere, the 10 PM news was branded as Action News @ 10. This title was derived from WRDQ's general station branding ("Action TV 27") @ the time of the launch but it ceased to be used as an overall station branding term.
