WMSN-TV is a FOX station in Madison, Wisconsin; owned by the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, with studios & transmitter located on Madison's west side.
It's a typical FOX station, running primarily first run & off-network syndicated shows along with FOX programming & a 35-minute 9 PM newscast produced by WKOW-TV, an ABC affiliate owned by Quincy Newspapers.
Like it's Sinclair sister stations in Milwaukee (WVTV & WCGV-TV), WMSN still signs off @ night, doing so @ 2:05 AM Monday morning & returning to the air @ 5 AM.
WMSN broadcasts on analog ch. 47 & ch. 11 (or PSIP Virtual ch. 47.1). The station will continue analog broadcasts until the full US DTV transition takes place on June 12 2009; it's currently the only commercial station in Madison continuing regular analog TV broadcasts.
History[]
WMSN began as an independent station before becoming affiliated with the FOX network.
WMSN is located on Big Sky Drive, the site of the former Big Sky Drive-In Theater. For several years, WMSN has broadcast "Big Sky Theater" on Saturday nights, featuring classic movies, mostly westerns, from the drive-in era.
Sinclair & FOX recently finalized a 6-year affiliation contract extension for Sinclair's 19 FOX affiliates, including WMSN. WMSN's affiliation contract now expires in March 2012.
