NNC Checkout Channel was an out-of-home advertising place-based satellite TV network broadcasting customized NNC programming by daypart @ grocery stores across the United States. The network debuted in 1990 & was installed in over 1,000 grocery stores across 30 grocery chains in 25 U.S. markets. NNC shut down the network in late 1995.
The network launched utilizing Philips TV's @ each aisle's cash register. NNC later installed separate motion-sensor activated speakers @ the head of the aisle in an effort to reduce overall noise in the store, especially on aisles that were closed & to overcome comments from cash register attendants who were distracted by the audio coming from the TV.
NNC Checkout Channel was run & owned by WMFL Corporation
