KIII, ch. 3, is an ABC affiliate broadcasting on analog ch. 3 in Corpus Christi, Texas. It's currently owned by McKinnon Broadcasting, though licensed under "Channel 3 of Corpus Christi, Inc." in the FCC database.

HistoryEdit

KIII's history traces back to the 1954 sign-on of KVDO-TV, a locally-owned station broadcasting on UHF ch. 22. As TV manufacturers were not required to include UHF tuners in TVs prior to 1964, KVDO struggled to get viewers & shut down in 1957. On May 4 1964, McKinnon Broadcasting put KIII-TV 3 on the air.

In 1969, KIII started a satellite, KXIX-TV ch. 19, to bring ABC programming to Victoria, Texas. In 1976, it was sold off to local ownership (it now operates as FOX affiliate KVCT).

3 News @ 6 & 10 Anchor, Joe Gazin, currently serves as Corpus Christi's longest news anchor that is currently on-air. He has been @ KIII since 1977.
