Stephanie Abrams is an on-camera meteorologist for The Weather Channel, a 24 hour American cable television weather network.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Stephanie Abrams was born in Miami, Florida, in 1978. Raised in Lake Clarke Shores, Florida and Wellington, Florida, Abrams attended Meadow Park Elementary in West Palm Beach, Florida and Forest Hill High School and graduated from Wellington High School. Abrams parents divorced when she was young and much of her time was spent with her father, Dr. Barry Abrams, an infectious disease specialist. She was sent to the United States Space Camp twice and vacationed in science rich locations such as Yellowstone National Park. She was also a member of the youth movement Young Judaea] having attended Camp Judaea in Hendersonville, North Carolina and the Machon In Israel summer program.

Education[]

Abrams graduated with a Bachelor of Science in geography minoring in mathematics from the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Florida, graduating with honors and elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was also a member of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority.

Abrams' second degree was a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, [lorida where she graduated cum laude. At Florida State, Abrams, like other meteorology students, practiced on-air forecasts on FSU Live, a student-run news and weather production on a Tallahassee cable channel. During her time at FSU, she worked as a teacher's assistant, where she taught a class about meteorology.

Abrams is a member of both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and was president of the North Florida chapter of the AMS from 2002-2003. She also holds the seal of approval from the AMS.

Career[]

Abrams' first position was as a morning meteorologist at WTXL, the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, Florida. In July 2003, Abrams began on-air work for The Weather Channel

Abrams was formerly co-host of Abrams and Bettes: Beyond the Forecast. Then she went onto Weather Center from 7 to 10 p.m. with co-host Mike Bettes. She stopped hosting that show on June 2009 and began hosting Your Weather Today. On July 20, 2009, she began co-hosting 'Wake Up With Al' with NBC's Al Roker weekday mornings 6-7 AM, and then join Mike Bettes from 7-10 AM ET on 'Your Weather Today'.
