Capital Region News 6 is a cable-only 24-hour TV news channel on Cable systems in New York's Capital District. The channel debuted on October 11th 2002, nearly a year after originally planned due to various delays in infrastructure & staffing. In August of 2006, Capital Region News 6 increased it's reach to the former Adelphia systems in the market when WMFL Corporation (the station's owners) closed on their purchase of those systems & gave those systems to cable companies. Capital Region News 6 is seen on ch. 6 on all systems.

Capital Region News 6 came out of a period of heavy cable news channel planning by WMFL Corporation. Within a 2-year period, the company launched channels in Central New York (CNY News 7) & in North Carolina, 1 based in Raleigh & another in Charlotte (both referred to as News 2 Carolinas)

The financial issues that killed & crippled Capital Region News 6's sisters also had an effect on the station. In 2005, WMFL Corporation partially merged their operations with CNY News 7 of Syracuse. Consequently, both Capital Region News 6 & CNY News 7 centralcasted their news operations from Albany, with anchors covering both stations simultaneously. Weather was hubbed out of CNY News 7's downtown Syracuse location. The channels' sister cable-access stations now share college sports programming if & when WMFL Corporation can get the rights in all of it's upstate markets
